THIS WEEK!

I trust that every one's stress levels that usually visit us all around this time of year have arrived?

Relieve some of that stress this Friday evening 12/17 with one of the best darn classic rock cover bands in the area. My buds in DRIVEN hit the stage at The Sticky Wicket at 9pm playing their hearts out for their hometown! "THE WICKET" is located at 2465 So. Broad St. (Rte. 206 So.) in Hamilton NJ.

Now personally I look very much forward to visits from at least three spirits (if not more) during the holidays. As a matter of fact, this Sunday I will be making the first of many batches of homemade egg nog. The first three spirits to visit will be Jim Beam, Ron Bacardi and ALL of the Christian Bros! This will be sampled at the 2nd. annual ROCK ON RADIO CHRISTMAS SPECTACULAR this Sunday 12/19 from 9pm-12am est. airing LIVE on multiple outlets! This year the show expands to three hours of unscripted revelry. My scheduled guest is THE HERD OF BLUES featuring DINO COLOROCCO, MIKE LENYO and JOE LEMING. Also scheduled to stop by are MIKE MATISA, KELLY CARVIN and possibly more former guests. There will be new original Christmas tunes from Matisa and Carvin as well as MICHAEL PATRICK, TANGLE TOWN, SHAUN RUYMEN and others. My man O'G from Canada Dry Beverages will be in attendance as well! I have no idea what is going to take place; but my egg nog packs a kick; so it should be interesting.

Also on Sunday 12/19 from 7-10pm at Coffee Works located at 910 Haddonfield Berlin Rd. in Voorhees NJ, former ROR guest and a dynamite performer, the girl who puts the "fun" in funky....LAURA CHEADLE takes the stage! If you've never seen this amazingly talented lady with the sultry voice, you need to do so; she won't leave you disappointed.

Tuesday 12/21 I have been asked to bring my drum kit to THE SAINT located at 601 Main St. in Asbury Park NJ to play along side many talented musicians for the "Acoustic Holiday Gathering" featuring JOE MILLER, COOK SMITH, EMILY GROVE,THE AQUILLA SISTERS and other special guests. Tickets are $8 and the doors open at 7:30pm. I'm VERY sure that the spirits will all be there as well....just in many varying flavors! I'm not sure who or what musicians that I'll be playing with; but perhaps the "spirits" shall guide me?

Since I last wrote, ROR has been picked up by more outlets; one in Ireland, one in Canada, and three in the UK. This of course is very exciting news for me and my program. This brings the total affiliations to 22! ROCK ON RADIO is now carried live on eight stations every Sunday night at 10pm est., is available for free download, is podcasted, and is also on smart phones/iPhones. The program is also re-aired seven days a week on the remaining outlets at various times of the day. Please check www.myspace.com/rockonradio1460 for show schedules, outlets and times.

Lastly, I wish to thank all of you for your continued support of me, my program, my musical ability (or lack thereof...), and all of the extremely talented original artists who I have been lucky enough to meet, interview, and partner with since the inception of this program. I tip my hat to all of you and your exceptional abilities!

Here's to a Merry Christmas, a Happy, healthy and prosperous New Year in 2011 and as always......ROCK ON!

Shameless Self Promotion

Back in the month of June, I was asked to do a speaking engagement for an event at THE WINE LOFT in Long Branch NJ.

As I stood before the network known as THE SOCIAL BUTTERFLY, the words of my neighbor went through my mind, "Give them a catch phrase; something they'll remember." So, as I prepared to give my first ever speech to a room full of total strangers, it hit me...."Shameless Self Promotion."

These are the words that I began my speech with. I based this upon the simple fact that if I didn't promote myself, my music, and my radio program; then who would?

So, keeping these words in mind; I am about to engage in "Shameless Self Promotion."

Friday evening 10/1 from 7-9pm, I will be performing as a member of THE ITTY BITTY BAND featuring my amazing band mate JO WYMER on the boardwalk in Asbury Park NJ at the SAND WITCH. Sunday 10/3 from 12-7pm "PAPPA CARL'S JAM FOR LIFE" benefiting organ transplants and organ donors, takes place at KATMANDU; 50 Riverview Executive Park in Trenton NJ. I am playing with JO WYMER & THE ITTY BITTY BAND as well as along with KIM YARSON & THE VOLUNTEERS. I have also been asked to host the outside stage as well. Amusing....

Ok, so we've all heard the stories of how big name stars just "show up" at places unannounced and "so and so" just happened to be there correct? Well, I just had one of those experiences....sort of.

Picture this: A quiet night on the boardwalk in a Jersey Shore town which is trying to reconnect with the masses as well as its' own identity. I'm playing with my band in front of a popular little sandwich shop on a Friday night. Just down the block a crowd begins to gather as the town is about to launch its first of several Friday night "Bonfires On The Beach."

Due to some minor difficulties, the band takes an early break. So as I'm standing there, I notice this gentleman walking towards our location; he's all alone and dressed like a regular "Joe." The man is wearing blue jeans, motorcycle boots, chaps and a leather jacket; his motorcycle helmet tucked under his arm. Now given the location of this event, I'm thinking that this fellow is dressed as such because he's a "wanna be." My exact thoughts were, "Look at this idiot! He's a wanna be! What an idiot." Then as he drew closer I realized that he wasn't just any "idiot" trying to duplicate a famous personality; he WAS the famous personality!

The place was the Sand Witch, the location was Asbury Park NJ, and the man was none other than "The Boss" himself, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN. Bruce said a brief hello to my band mate and continued on his way. So now that I feel like the "idiot," I'm dumb founded as to how come no one is even noticing him.

Is it that everyone else felt like I did? Could it be that he commands that much respect, such that people don't wish to intrude on his privacy? Perhaps it's because he's such a local icon and ingrained in the Asbury Park culture that he really is "just like us?" Whatever the answer may be; none of them can change the fact that I pre-judged an individual based on some preconceived notion that things are not always as they appear. I mean, come on people, granted it's Asbury Park, but does anyone actually think that they are going to see Springsteen just strolling down the boardwalk on a Friday evening? I never expected it.

I guess that my point is; never be judgemental. Just like I pre-judged a legend, many artists, bands and musicians (as well as co-workers, friends and sometimes family) suffer the same fate. Things (such as in this case) are not always as they appear. Some times you just need to see things for yourself, block out others opinions, and make your own informed decisions and judgements. I made a rash judgement and almost made a fool of myself. Notice I said almost? This is only because I realized before it was too late that he was the real deal and I didn't comment on my first thoughts aloud. Just think about it my friends......

Saturday 9/25, I'll be playing along with KIM YARSON & THE VOLUNTEERS from 2-3pm on Maplewood Ave. in Cranbury NJ at CRANSTOCK. This is a benefit for The Cranbury Arts Council. This festival runs all afternoon and will feature many talented bands and artists.

Sunday, 9/26, popular Jersey rockin' pop artist LINDA CHORNEY is my guest on ROCK ON RADIO. This very talented artist has a world of experience that she'll be sharing with us. Tune in at 10pm est. to http://www.wifiam1460.com/ or multiple other outlets and ROCK ON!

Thoughts.....

A while back, my nephew TERRY LODA posted a rant as a blog about the rules that bands/musicians should follow when playing a club/bar and/or dealing with promoters. This rant turned blog, has made it literally around the world and back. There have even been several establishments which have gone as far as to post it as "House Rules" for the performers that play there. This was written because he finally tired of dealing with, for lack of a better term, "Divas."

Which brings me to my point; why do some musicians/bands/artist feel that they are so much more successful than they actually are?

Is it age? Youth and inexperience? Is it large egos that are fed by "adoring fans," friends and family? Why is it that so many good entertainers fall into this trap? I ask these questions because I've seen this happen to many different artists. These issues transcend all musical genres, sexes, and styles.

Let's take my radio program for example. ROCK ON RADIO was started because I am a musician. Over my thirty five years of involvement in numerous musical communities; I've met many quality musicians and people. I remember the thrill when I was fifteen years old when I heard my band's music on a local FM radio station. I'll never forget the night; I was walking past a booth at a church carnival and heard the song coming out of a transistor radio. The premise behind ROCK ON RADIO was to try and give other bands/artists the same "thrill" that I had on that very evening.

So why is it, that so many musicians who in the grand scheme of things haven't accomplished anything just yet, feel like they have? Oh, they may have a CD, and some moderate airplay, or maybe some great contacts; but until they've actually been signed to a major label, or are touring as either a supporting act, or a headliner...are still just "local musicians."

Now I know that this seems harsh, but I'm just trying to put some things into perspective. I realize that in the entertainment industry, EGO so often is the number one problem; so a dose of reality never hurts anybody!

So listen up people, try and remember the days when you first started, first gigged, the failed projects, and everything that made you and/or your band who/what you are today. Take a look back and realize that without those yesterdays; you wouldn't be what you've become today. So, when someone offers to help your career, appreciate them. When they offer to assist you, take your time to thank them not advantage of them. Always remember where you came from, because you'll never get to where you want to be without the help from others along the path to success. Above all, remember that you're only as good as your last gig, and how people perceive you both on and off stage.

Tonight on ROCK ON RADIO; due to a last minute cancellation, my new guest is singer/songwriter MICHAEL DANTE SUMMONTE from Long Branch NJ. This young, talented guitarist has a bright future ahead of him!

September 5th Asbury Park NJ

Well, this past Sunday I was lucky enough to be part of THE PARAMOUNT SESSIONS.

For those of you not familiar with The Paramount Theater; it is part of the Convention Hall complex in Asbury Park NJ. Convention Hall encompasses one side, The Paramount Theater the other; each separated by a common area in the middle known as The Atrium.

Over the years so many great acts/events have graced the stage of both of these venues.

Fortunately for me, I was privileged to take part in this first time event called "The Paramount Sessions." Dubbed so, because of the it's influence on so many musicians over the years, as well as its' location on the boardwalk in proximity to the theater itself; The Paramount Sessions provided major insight into the singer/songwriter community of Asbury Park NJ. JO WYMER & THE ITTY BITTY BAND kicked the whole thing off at 11am. Following WYMER was a list of performers who showcased many diverse styles and talents that had many a boardwalk patron stopping to listen, tapping their feet, asking for business cards, or just plain nodding/smiling in appreciation.

Music reigned supreme on this Labor Day weekend in Asbury Park. The boardwalk sessions were at the 1st and 4th Ave. "greenspaces" (so named because the electricity was generated by solar power) from 11am until 7pm; at which time the party moved inside of the Paramount Theater continuing with a free concert of several more Asbury Park area artists. The entire day culminated with an after party for the musicians, crew, and people who made this happen at THE STONE PONY.

This was all done in conjunction with the organization MOVE ON HUNGER. Donations of non-perishable food items were collected at numerous locations throughout the day which benefited food banks/agencies in Monmouth and Ocean Counties. The Paramount Sessions was the first of several planned events, which are tentatively scheduled in the upcoming future.

Now on the music front; I will be playing along with JO WYMER this Friday 9/10 from 7-9pm est. at the TWISTED TREE located on Cookman Ave. In Asbury Park NJ. If you feel like taking the jaunt down to this refurbished area of this legendary Jersey shore town, we'd love to see you there!

My scheduled guest this Sunday 9/12 at 10pm est. on ROCK ON RADIO is Philadelphia Pa. band SINNERS SAINTS. These hard driving rockers have a great sound! http://www.sinnerssaints.com/

I will be participating as we kick the whole thing off at 11am est. at the 1st. Avenue Greenspace. I will be performing as a member of the ITTY BITTY BAND featuring the amazing JO WYMER. I was also fortunate enough to be asked to perform along with the great SHELI AARDEN at 12:30pm at the same location. Local singer/songwriter and fantastic talent KEITH MONACCHIO will also be performing here at 1pm. Many former and upcoming Rock On Radio guests will also be featured throughout the day. The entire event will culminate inside the historic Paramount Theater with a free concert featuring JERZY JUNG, RICK BARRY BAND, and ending with OUTSIDE THE BOX. The Asbury Park boardwalk is making a comeback, so why not come on out, witness it for yourself, and see some great music in the process.

Also this weekend: Sat. 9/4...JO WYMER and the ITTY BITTY BAND will be performing at the Main St. Gazebo in Freehold NJ. JO always puts on a great show with her unbelievable vocals and great guitar skills. Show starts between 6:30/7pm.

Beginning at 7:30am at Veterans Park in Hamilton NJ, there will be a 5K run/1 mile walk to help raise awareness as well as funds to support this cause. ROCK ON RADIO "side-kick" and my good friend Bob "BC" Cook will be trying his hand at hosting the entertainment portion of this event which as of now will have a DJ and former ROR guest GERALD EDWARD and possibly more live acts. For more information, contact KAREN NEULS at Karenneuls@gmail.com or their web site is http://www.tealwingsofhopefoundation.org/ . To pre-register for either the run or the walk; you may do so at http://www.active.com/

Friday 9/3, I was lucky to be asked to join MIKE MATISA and DINO COLOROCCO on stage at THE TRELLIS at THE HAMILTON MANOR located on Rtes. 156 and 130 South in Yardville NJ. I will be doing percussion work for them as these talented players will be performing cover material with a few original tunes thrown in as well. It's a Happy Hour Show from 7-10pm.

Sunday 9/5 at 10pm est. on ROCK ON RADIO my guest will be members of the Hamilton NJ band RADIO FICTION. Currently in studio working on a CD, they will be discussing the recording process as well as giving us a "sneak peak" with some live on air performances.

I'm Back!

Hello my fellow rock 'n' rollers! Sorry for the long time between posts. I had some power chord issues as well as some things happening in life that just get in the way of blogging.

OK, since I last left all of you, I've had the pleasure of performing in several venues with some good friends and band mates. This past Thursday, I accompanied KIM YARSON as well as JO WYMER on percussion at a "Songwriters In The Round" event at the Bordentown Public Library. A very nice turn out of original music enthusiasts filled the seats as KIM, JO, and newcomer to the scene DOMENIC CARINO took turns playing their well written material and giving us some insight into why each song is "what it is." YARSON puts these Songwriter events together at libraries throughout the state of NJ and always has fantastic talent performing along with her at them. To find out more info. on these events; go to http://www.kimyarson.com/ .

Last evening I performed with DALE LAKATA as a member of her band EDEN at Brewster's Bar and Bowling Alley in Bradley Beach NJ. DALE has a unique style and sound that some find quite interesting.

Today, I'll be performing with JO WYMER and ADAM GOLDENTHALL as we assist the legendary AL-VIS at his ROAD CONSTRUCTION CD Release Party. This event takes place at 3pm Sprengel's Sports Bar located at 2447 Rte. 33 @ Wayside Ave. in Neptune NJ.

If you missed last Sunday's ROCK ON RADIO with JOE VADALA; you missed a good one. JOE brought veteran rocker PK LAVENGOOD (John Eddie Band) as well as a great new talent by the name of DAN SUFALKO. SUFALKO has a new CD out entitled "Good Bye Blue Sky" which features the guitar work of LAVENGOOD as well as some backing vocals by local favorite (as well as one of my own) KELLY CARVIN. This five song effort can be found on iTunes, CD Baby and various other outlets. http://www.dansufalko.com/

TAKE A MOMENT...

Remember the days when a worker actually received a "paid holiday" on the holiday itself? Now, because it's in the "union contract that we get a paid day off when the holiday falls on a weekend;" many workers get a chance to celebrate America's Independence for an extra day.

As we gather to eat, socialize, drink, and "celebrate;" I think that all of us should take a moment to reflect on OUR independence. Yes, today we celebrate the two hundred & thirty fourth declaration of our thirst for freedom from tyrannical rule; but the ideals and foundations that led to this event were planted long prior.

By now you're all probably wondering, "What does this have to do with the "Indie" music scene?" Just like those brave Colonials in the seventeen hundreds; today we need to reflect upon the brave young men and women in our military who are all over the world protecting our "Rights, endowed by our creator;" the people who are fighting for OUR dreams, and make it possible for us to go to our parades, fireworks displays, backyard BBQs and out to the bars/pubs later on tonight (because Mon. is a "paid holiday") to hear great original music by INDEPENDENT artists.

Yes, take a minute to reflect upon why it is that we're able to visit many of our local area establishments and drink, eat, and listen FREELY. By my own admission, I am perhaps one of the worse people on the planet to travel with; this due to my penchant for thanking EVERY veteran and service man/woman that I happen to come upon with a handshake and a simple "Thank You." My children, who as young teens would distance themselves from me (from fear of embarrassment) in airports, now "get it." Now they stand near me (at least) as I express my gratitude. Many of these fine young men and women are musicians, vocalists and Indie artists. They are artists who are putting their own lives on hold and on the line so that ours may continue uninterrupted. They are awake while we sleep, alone while we're with company, and while we are doing shots from a tube at some seaside bar...they are being shot at.

All of that being said, I'm not asking you to donate, nor am I asking anyone to do something that they may or may not be comfortable with. What I am asking is that all of us just take a moment to think, reflect and if possible, renew a commitment to someone, something, or to the dreams that our independent country and our brave military provide each and every one of us with on a daily basis.

Keeping in line with the above theme; I will be playing this Thursday 7/8 at 5pm along side of JOE KILDEA at a benefit for our disabled veterans. The COMMUNITY JUSTICE CENTER of Trenton NJ are the organizers of this event which will feature the following line up of local area musicians who are donating their time:

5-6pm - JOE KILDEA w/ DANNY COLEMAN

6-7PM - TOM GLOVER

7-8PM - THE HIGH HEARTS

8-9PM - ERIC GREB

Also this week, Wed. 7/7 the "Acoustic Singer/Songwriter Showcase" is back at KATMANDU on the mighty Delaware River in Trenton NJ. This fantastic free showcase kicks off at 7:30pm and features talent from all over the state! LANCE REICHERT always does a great job of assembling TOP-NOTCH performers on a weekly basis for these shows....the deck overlooking the river is fabulous, and the atmosphere very enjoyable.

Lastly, former ROCK ON RADIO alumni MIKE MONTREY and his band will be performing live at the STONE PONY on Ocean Ave. in Asbury Park NJ tonight! MONTREY is a great live act and well worth the trip. Doors open at 5pm.

There is no live presentation of ROCK ON RADIO this evening due to the holiday. We shall return next week 7/11 when my guest will be Hopewell NJ singer/songwriter JAMES POPIK.

Have a safe, enjoyable holiday and as always.............ROCK ON!

Events of this week

Wow! What a week in the local music scene!

First off, I was VERY fortunate to have been asked to be part of "Jammin' For Juju" at IT'S A GRIND COFFEE HOUSE in Plainsboro NJ. KIM YARSON did a fabulous job at arranging this affair; as well as lending her talent to the benefit. I was honored to share the stage with her, my new band mates JO WYMER and JERRY PASSION, as well as the other talented artists that donated their time to help this little girl who is stricken with Mitochondrial Dx. They should all be very proud of their efforts, which I'm told yielded great results.

Later that evening on ROCK ON RADIO; prelude to JAMFEST 4 week number two took place. My guests were Raritan NJ singer/songwriter DALE LAKATA and LOCAL SHACK owner PETE JESTER. Dale bought her guitarist DAVE BATESON and Pete brought the manager of the Local Shack DONNA TORRES. JAMFEST 4, a collaborative work between Jester and KURT HESSE, is being held this year at the LOCAL SHACK on Rte. 9 in Lakewood NJ. and features many talented performers. To find out more, go to http://www.localshack.biz/

Tuesday was ROCK ON RADIO invades Waterfront Park! Myself, BC, Engineer ART and my sponsor from Canada Dry... O'G, took in a Trenton Thunder baseball game while relaxing in the WIFI luxury suite. I wish to thank station manager Aaron and owner John Forsythe for providing us with a great night!

Tonight (Wed.), let's not forget the "Acoustic Showcase" at KATMANDU in Trenton NJ. (http://www.katmandutrenton.com/ ) LANCE REICHERT always puts on a great line-up of talented musicians from both sides of the Delaware River. Unfortunately, I will not be attending that this evening, as I will be speaking at a social/business networking meeting in Long Branch NJ. The topic: ROCK ON RADIO and Grass Roots Marketing. Should be interesting; as I've never done this before.

Friday night at the "LATIN BEAN and BISTRO COFFEE HOUSE located on Farnsworth Ave. in Bordentown NJ....KIM YARSON and JO WYMER will be entertaining the masses. I'm going to do my best to make this gig, and so should all of you! Two VERY talented musicians!

Saturday I shall be in Bradley Beach NJ at a TORCHY'S TROUBADOURS event which benefits TORCHY BLAINE and the TURN THE CORNER LYME DISEASE FOUNDATION. This event is being held at BREWSTER'S BAR and BOWLING ALLEY located on Main St. in Bradley Beach. Event begins at 3pm and the music starts at 5pm. Myself and local Hamilton Township resident/AGENCY bassist MIKE THOMPSON will be two of KIM YARSON's "VOLUNTEERS" as we'll be providing the rhythm section for her at this event. http://www.torchystroubadours.org/ .

Busy week for sure....Hopefully, I'll see some of you at one or all of these shows. ROCK ON!

Jammin' for JuJu

This Sunday 6/13 beginning at 2pm; my friend KIM YARSON is hosting a fundraiser at IT'S A GRIND COFFEE HOUSE on Schalk's Crossing Road in Plainsboro NJ. This event is called "Jammin' For Juju" and is being held to raise money and awareness to help fight Mitochondrial Dx.

"Juju" a very young child and friend of Yarson's, has been afflicted with this condition which strikes at the neuro-muscular system. Her and her family need our help as the treatment for this disease is very costly.

Some of the performers that Kim has assembled for this cause, and who are graciously donating their time are as follows:

2-3pm - KIM YARSON & VOLUNTEERS

3pm - JIM GAVEN

3:45pm - JO WYMER

4:30pm - CJ BARNA

5pm - BARBARA HARLEY & AL LIND

IT'S A GRIND COFFEE HOUSE is full of great tasting coffee and sweet treats to help soothe, relax, or uplift your spirits. If the weather holds; this event will take place outside, if not please come on out and enjoy the atmosphere on the inside and help out this great cause. I myself will be participating in this worthwhile event...so I hope to see you there!

Now as a side note, I'd like to mention two shows that I was a part of earlier this week. Tuesday evening, I made my percussion debut with JO WYMER at JULIA'S RESTAURANT located at 91 1st. Ave. in Atlantic Highlands NJ. JO was the featured artist at the Atlantic Highlands Arts Council's "2NITE" series. The second Tuesday of every month, they host this great open mic. at Julia's. I was overwhelmed by the support that the community showed for this event. Even though it was a Tuesday evening, the venue was packed full of original music performers and enthusiasts. Along with JO WYMER, I had the honor of meeting, as well as sharing the stage with some of the areas finest musicians and artists. I performed with the likes of POPPA JOHN BUG, BOB HEART, AL-VIS, JERRY PASSION and a recent ROCK ON RADIO guest....CAROL BARBIERI. Being surrounded by, and asked to accompany such talent definitely forced me to bring my "A" game to the table. Many or most of these same amazing artists can also be found on Monday evenings at VAL'S TAVERN in Rumson NJ as CAROL BARBIERI and COOK SMITH host an open mic. there as well.

Wednesday evening, I accompanied ROCK ON RADIO alumni ASTRONAUT JONES and this Sunday's guest DALE LAKATA, as they performed at the "Singer/Songwriter Acoustic Showcase" at Katmandu. Always a pleasure to jam with these two fine artist, the evening went very smooth as LANCE REICHERT put on yet another great showcase. Lance even joined SHAUN RUYMEN on stage during his set and added some very tasteful lead guitar to RUYMEN'S always fantastic music.

So, if possible, please come on out this Sunday to support a great cause as well as original artists/music....and as always....ROCK ON!

Hamilton Radio

Did you know that there's a great Internet radio outlet that's located in Hamilton Township NJ??

An outlet that features oldies, classic rock, country, soft rock and of course carries ROCK ON RADIO live every Sunday night at 10pm est. all in a family friendly format....well, that outlet is www.hamiltonradio.net .

Owner/station manager "Doc G" has assembled some of the finest quality programming on any radio station of any variety; which is why Hamilton Radio has a loyal listener ship that averages over 75,000 per day. A veteran of terrestrial radio, Doc G knows the trials and tribulations of the industry. In Hamilton Radio, he has listened to his fan base and gives them the variety that so many desperately want.

A huge supporter of local and national busines; Hamilton Radio thrives on being an integral part of the Hamilton community as well as it's world wide audience. On the station's website, one can find ads. from small and large business alike.

Doc G is also an avid supporter of my ROCK ON RADIO program as well as many of the unsigned original Indie artists that I've featured on my show. He airs the show live on Sundays, then re-airs it again on Tuesdays and Saturdays. He also features many of my past guests in his regular broadcast rotation.

This station has it all; great "B" sides, featured shows, and variety like never before heard...all just one click of your mouse away. It's a fantastic site to have on during your work day, or while sitting at home on-line.

Word on the street is that this incredible station is headed for your radio dial as well. I'm told that plans are in the works to make Hamilton Radio Hamilton Township's first FM station. Hopefully, these plans come to fruition; it's my opinion that it can't be soon enough.

So, do yourself a favor; go to www.hamiltonradio.net and give a listen. You may never go back to listening to another station again.

Never too old to Rock 'n' Roll

"Yo, you can't hang dude! You need to be in a wedding band." This was the quote of one of my co-workers circa. 1997. Well, here it is thirteen years later; and now I'm even older, yet still managing to "hang."

I'm not sure which I relish more, the fact that I've proven him wrong, or that I'm still able to play with the same drive and desire that I had 30+ years ago. Fortunately for me, since the inception of ROCK ON RADIO, I've come in contact with many incredibly talented people. Meeting and networking at open mics. and showcase events has afforded me the opportunity to reconnect with my one true form of enjoyment....music. I've begun playing my drums in earnest once again; doing kit work in the recording studio, percussion for various artists, and I somehow have even managed to get myself back into an amazing band situation.

I can honestly say that I'm enjoying being a musician again. I look forward to the late nights, the atmosphere, the smiles of the crowd as well as being part of a "community" of players who all support and feed off of one another.

I write this piece because I often think about the younger musiscians whom I come across; those who have young families, or jobs that curtail their efforts to play. I often look back on the days when my kids were small, remembering how, for a period of ten years my drums sat collecting dust as they were rarely used. I made the mistake of not following my dreams and desires. I remember thinking, "I'm a family man now, can't be hanging in bars 'til all hours and playing." These are ten years of my life that I'll never get back. Now, as we all know, hindsight is always 20/20. I don't regret putting my musical aspirations on hold; but looking back, I wouldn't do it again. I would attempt to find a balance, a happy medium of sorts.

So here I am many years later, and I've found myself. My kids are teenagers, they are totally self sufficient and independent. I even include them now in my gigs, my radio program and whenever I can do so. They are my fan base, my roadies, and my best/worst critics. It's funny how it all comes full circle.

So for those of you who think that you may be too old to Rock 'n' Roll....I say never! Just like Bob Seger sang "So come back baby, 'cuz Rock 'n' Roll never forgets." To my former co-worker I say..."Hey! Look at me, I'm still hanging!"

CAFE IMPROV in Princeton NJ

This past Saturday evening, I was lucky enough to have my good buddy Anthony "FAST ANT" Canulli ask me to accompany him on stage at CAFE IMPROV.

For those of you that are not familiar with this venue; you need to be...and soon. Every fourth Saturday of each month, John Irving and his fine crew put on a televised program from the Paul Robeson Center (located at 102 Witherspoon St.) that is unique and very entertaining.

Upon my arrival, I was interested to see a poetry reading taking place. I was a bit taken aback by the prop (an inflatable mallet), but I stuck it out and was glad that I wasn't the intended recipient of the message. That being said, the amazing JO WYMER was next on stage. Jo wowed the audience with a mixture of soulful blues and jazzy type numbers that drew great applause.

Now I'm going to confess, I was a bit contemplative; at one point I leaned over to Anthony and asked if the theater was going to be able to handle us? Up until this point, with the JO WYMER exception, things were kind of mellow. Please understand, this was not a poor quality show by any stretch...just very different. The quality of all of the performers was first rate, as I found out later in the evening. I was just curious as to whether or not we would "fit in."

"FAST ANT" hit the stage opening up with an original instrumental which "led" into his version of the Zeppelin classic "Black Dog." Next, he called me up on stage to do several more of his originals; all of which were straight forward rockers.

These tunes seemed to ignite the crowd as well as the emcee Tom Florek. "Putting the Improv in Cafe Improv," he took the stage and invited two sax players and three female vocalists up as he jumped behind the piano. I believe the exact quote was "Anthony play something"... so we ripped into a rockin' version of "Gloria." This got the crowd up and into things, and also prompted JO WYMER and JERRY PASSION to come on up as well. This got the party started and we rocked out next with Lou Reed's "Take A Walk On The Wild Side" and ended the night with Stevie Wonders "Superstition."

The sax players were amazingly talented, the vocals of JO WYMER and her three female accomplices were Top-Notch and over all it was a great night of ROCK 'N' ROLL.

Indie Night Acoustic Showcase at Katmandu

Where can you find some of the tri-state area's most amazing talent? Well, for starters, try Wednesday evenings beginning at 7pm est. on the banks of the Delaware River at Trenton's own KATMANDU.

LANCE REICHERT does a simply phenomenal job of assembling some of the finest musicians to ever grace a stage. The talent pool runs deep and Lance has the uncanny ability to catch the best of the best!

The "Indie Singer/Songwriter Acoustic Showcase" is also a networking event for musicians, promoters, PR people, and those who just want to hear incredible music and/or get to know some of their favorite Indie artists better.

Beginning June 9th and almost every Wednesday evening thereafter; the showcase will take place (weather permitting) outside on the spacious deck at "The Kat." The deck offers two stages, a great view of the river, and a fantastic atmosphere to listen to the music of up to fifteen different artists. There are drink specials, an open kitchen and plenty of available seating that all adds to the enjoyment of the showcase.

Fast becoming one of the area's premier music events; this showcase has a little something for everyone. There are acts that are young, old and somewhere inbetween; in short, there's a great chance that no matter who you are, or what your age bracket, you WILL find something that suits your listening pleasure. The weekly bill is filled with multiple acts, however there is only one "featured act" per show. Recent featured acts have been KEITH MONACCHIO and SHAUN RUYMEN to name just two. Local performers who attend are KELLY CARVIN, PETE NAGY, FAST ANT and also 15 keys to name a few. Some not so local include ASTRONAUT JONES, LAURA CRISCI, PATTY BLEE, NORMAN TAYLOR, JO WYMER, and DALE LAKATA. Once on stage, each performer gets a 3-4 song set, depending on how many artist are on the bill that evening. This short set list ensures that every performer is using the best of their best material.

I can honestly say that I have never been to one of these events and walked away disappointed at the quality of the entertainment. I can't say enough good things about the job that Lance does here week in and week out. This showcase requires much effort and energy and he handles it with TOP NOTCH ability! Please check out the website at www.qbdigital.com/indie/events.htm for a complete line-up of upcoming shows. There is also a you tube site at www.youtube/user/katmanduacoustic where you can see all of the recent artists performances. Look closely, that guy doing percussion on several of them may look familiar to you....
